YOU HAVE A DESTINY
Have you ever heard someone with a terminal disease say, “I can’t go yet, my work here is not finished.” Have YOU ever had the thought, “I was created for some specific reason, I just don’t know what it is. Maybe I’m supposed to accomplish a certain thing.” You’re not alone--many have this intuition. Do you think it could be placed there by God?
Do you think your life would change if you knew God has a DAILY plan for how you are supposed to live and act? Well, let’s see if He actually DOES have a destiny for us to fulfill:
Look at Psalm 139. It’s a Psalm of wonder - a litany of possibilities for your life. Zero in on verse 16. The KJV is a bit hazy, but the New King James (and others) say, “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book, they were written, the days FASHIONED for me…when as yet there were none of them.” The days fashioned FOR ME means more than just how MANY days you’ll live on earth, it means God’s destined intention for what you are to DO each day. The NAS (and many others) say, “In Your book, they were written, all the days ORDAINED for me.”
“Well then, why don’t I KNOW my destiny?”
Mostly because of what we consider the “little” sins. But God considers them huge! The ones from the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5,6,7. These are relationship sins.
For instance, two of us had worked lovingly and sacrificially to help a poor abused and homeless person. She (or HE as she liked to be called sometimes) was barely surviving the cold nights and risky life on the streets. We suspected that the little money she made was supplemented by the sale of some of her monthly prescriptions of narcotics.
We prayed with her and pointed her toward Jesus, but she was nowhere near ready to fully commit. We had to let her get to the “end of her rope” before we could discuss helping her with Christian rehab. They re-train such people and give them a discipline to serve God and go forward in a job and housing. She called and said she had come to that point. She had been crying out to Jesus in repentance she said. Could we get her into that program?
We joyfully took her to the rehab program. The director was gentle and kind and began to explain the very reasonable rules for her safety and progress. Suddenly, demons of arrogance and rebellion rose up in the young lady! It was shocking. She wanted nothing of those rules—she wanted a bed and food! She demanded it! The director could have told me, “Take her back to the streets.” Instead, the director took her to a crisis center to see if the treatment THEY offered could prep her for rehab. But our young lady ran away from the crisis center. Not because she was frightened, but because she wanted her own way.
The good news is, this young lady can STILL capture her destiny. All she has to do is decisively cooperate WITH God, instead of running from Him. And that is the story of all of us. We may not see ourselves as rebellious as this young lady, but the truth is, we are all self-willed enough to miss our destinies. All we have to do is trust Jesus enough to totally give ourselves over to Him. Bind and rebuke generational and self-inflicted curses off yourself, and THEN God will reveal the surprising and adventure-filled destiny He has for YOU!
